Welcome to Advent at Downtown

Advent is the beginning of the Christian calendar and it is a special time of anticipating the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is such a special time at Downtown to celebrate this event together. We hope that you will join with us as we worship, sing, and walk through this season together.

Below you will find our Advent schedule. If you have any questions please reach out. We would love to talk with you. We're glad you're here.

Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols

A wonderful way to start your holiday season, the Chancel Choir and orchestra will present our 10th annual "Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols". The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible "lessons" from Genesis, the prophetic books, and the Gospels; interspersed with the singing of carols, hymns and anthems. The order of worship is based on the annual service that has taken place at King's College, Cambridge since 1918. This worship service is offered as a gift to our church and entire community. We hope to greet you there as we welcome back the opportunity to gather in-person for this joyous seasonal event. The service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in-person.

Longest Night Service

For many the Christmas Season is not one of joy and anticipation...it is one filled with grief and loss. This may be the first Christmas without a loved one, a Christmas where buying gifts is not possible, a Christmas where a feeling of hopelessness has taken over. If this is where you are, or if you know someone who is struggling this Christmas Season, we invite you to join us for a special service being held on the longest night of the year. We will acknowledge our pain and invite God into our grief. We will be led in a devotional time and spend time in prayer and liturgy as we grieve and as we hope.

Location: Downtown Sanctuary
